Rehabilitation

     Following an injury or illness, it is sometimes necessary for a patient to receive rehabilitation in order to begin the healing process and return to their optimal level of health and function.  Licensed therapists work closely with patients of all ages using fun and effective ways to train, educate, and help patients to regain function and initiate preventative care and healthy lifestyles.  Our staff will work with you, your family and physician to create the most effective individualized program for physical, occupational, or speech/language therapy.  We also offer a pediatric program especially designed for children.  Therapy services are offered at the Center for Health & Fitness in Loris and at Seacoast Medical Center.

 

Physical Therapy includes assessment and/or treatment of:

  • Postural retraining
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Assistive device training
  • Balance & coordination training
  • Strengthening & endurance training
  • Wound Management
  • Pain Management
  • Aquatic exercise programs that target arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic back pain
  • Golf swing and postural golf analysis
  • Golf strength & conditioning programs

 

Occupational Therapy services include assessment and/or treatment of:

  • Activities of daily living and retraining (ADLs)
  • Home Management and the care of others
  • Adaptive eating/dressing aids
  • Improving and restoring attention span, memory & problem solving ability
  • Stroke Rehab/Muscle Reeducation
  • Splinting - Static and dynamic splinting to prevent contractures or improve function
  • Upper extremity functional skills - improve range of movement, strength-coordination
  • Energy conservation/Work simplification

Speech/Language Therapy services include assessment and/or treatment of:

          • Cognition disorders affecting memory, reasoning, & problem solving
          • Speech & voice disorders
          • Articulation disorders
          • Swallowing disorders


Arthritis Rehabilitation Program
     Loris Healthcare System is proud to offer a new approach to the treatment of arthritic conditions.  Our program will offer individual physical therapy treatments, group aquatic therapy sessions, and weekly education sessions given at the Center for Health and Fitness in Loris.  
     A physician referral will be required for evaluation of any arthritic condition including:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Gouty arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Lupus
  • Fibromyalgia

     Most participants will attend the program for 6 weeks then be discharged to a community exercise program and/or home exercise program prescribed by their physical therapist.  The participants will be invited to return for screening at 6 and 12 months post participation to increase compliance and maintain progression of their exercise regimens. 

     Our Arthritis Rehabilitation program is being offered by our staff physical therapist, Elizabeth Rose, DPT.  Dr. Rose received her doctorate in Physical Therapy from Duke University Medical School and completed a 5-month internship at the Duke Center for Living Arthritis Rehabilitation Program.

Our accredited Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs incorporate monitored exercise, nutritional counseling, stress management, and health education.  A multi-disciplinary team of board certified physicians, specially trained nurses, exercise physiologist, registered dieticians and others work together to assist patients in recovery and maintenance rehabilitation. Therapy services are offered at Center for Health & Fitness in Loris and at Seacoast Medical Center.

 

Cardiac Rehabilitation is used in the assessment and/or treatment of:

  • Heart Attack
  • Open Heart Surgery
  • Stent Placement
  • Angina
  • Poor Activity Tolerance
  • De-Conditioning

 

 

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is used in the assessment and/or treatment of:

  • Emphysema
  • COPD
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Congestive Heart Failure

 

These programs are generally covered by Medicare, Medicaid, & private health insurance.
